Center City Condo Evacuated, Penn State Confident in Future, City Council Wants Bike Lane Control

A water leak at Center City One condos on the 1300 block of Spruce Street in Philadelphia forced more than 200 people to be evacuated. A standpipe broke on the 28th floor and also caused a gas leak. No word yet on how long repairs will take.

Penn State president Rodney Erickson is confident that the school will emerge stronger after the Jerry Sandusky trial. Jury selection begins next week. Despite all the distraction, Penn State has set a record for student applications and new research grant money.

Philadelphia City Council want more control over bicycle lanes in center city. The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and the Nutter Administration are reluctantly agreeing for now. Councilman Bill Greenlee amended the measure to require an ordinance only if parking or travel lanes are affected.

Sports
Phillies ace, Roy Halladay will miss 6 to 8 weeks with a muscle strain.
Tonight the Phillies play the Mets in New York.
In soccer, the Philadelphia Union defeated the Rochester Rhinos 3-0 in the first round of the US Open Cup.
